Bigayan 2011 Update: Wheelchairs Bought for Kythe
Updates as of December 9, 2011:
1. We already raised PHP 48,800, SGD 300 and USD 25 in cash donations/pledges! From our garage sale, we were able to raise PHP 3,000. All in all, that’s around PHP 62,600! Nalampasan na natin yung PHP 53,400 natin last year! Yey! Congratulations to all of us! We also collected old clothes and stuff toys. We also received plastic toys for our Kythe kids.
2.We already purchased the following:
FOR GOLDEN ACRES:
a. 4 1.8 kg cans of Ensure
b. 10 boxes of Ascorbic Acid 500 mg 100s
c. 30 cans 475 g. sardines (555 and Family Brand)
d. 30 cans 260 g. corned beed (CDO and 555)
e. 30 cans of 379 g. Purefoods Chinese Luncheon Meat
f. 5 large cans/tubs of assorted biscuits (M.Y. San and La Pacita)
FOR KYTHE:
a. 5 TMS nebulizers
b. 2 pedia wheelchairs
c. 2 Inmed standard wheelchairs
d. Assorted children’s storybooks
We bought the wheelchairs and nebulizers from Bambang. To those not familiar with Bambang, it is a popular street in Sta.Cruz, Manila which is considered the haven for affordable medical supplies and equipment. Items are usually 30 to 40% cheaper than in Mercury Drug and other medical supply stores located in malls. We want to make the most out of our funds so we made sure that we buy our gifts at the best prices.
3. We will be buying the following items once we have received all the pledges:
FOR GOLDEN ACRES:
a. 3 sacks of rice
b. 30 boxes Nescafe 3-in-1 decaf 10s
We decided to forego with the chemo meds for Kythe kasi mahirap sila ipurchase.
4. Another good news: we will have two more beneficiary institutions! Malaki kasi na-raise natin so we can afford to give to two more. Based on the survey for preferred beneficiaries, many also wanted to donate to an orphanage and an animal shelter. We then chose CRIBS and PAWS.
CRIBS, or Create Responsive Infants by Sharing, provides an alternative home environment for abandoned, surrendered and neglected children aged days old to two-years old. It is also a residential home for young female survivors of sexual abuse aged 7-17 years. It provides a nurturing and therapeutic environment for the healing and recovery of each child. For more information on CRIBS, please visit www.cribsfoundation.org.
PAWS, or the Philippine Animal Welfare Society, on the other hand,is a volunteer-based non-government organization whose goal is to prevent animal cruelty through education, animal sheltering and advocacy. It serves as a temporary shelter for dogs, cats and other animals rescued from cruelty or neglect with the ultimate goal of rehabilitating them and placing them in loving homes. For more information in PAWS, please visit www.paws.org.ph.
We are thinking of donating infant milk and toiletries to CRIBS and generic dog and cat food and detergent to PAWS.
5. Considering that we have four beneficiaries and some of our gifts are bulky, we will have two delivery dates. For Golden Acres, we will deliver our gifts on December 16. For Kythe, we hope to deliver on December 22. Kythe told us that we can deliver to any of their two affiliate hospitals: AFP Medical Center or Quirino Hospital and a Kythe coordinator will be there receive our gifts. We just chose Quirino Hospital along Katipunan since it is more accessible. We however told Kythe that they can divide our gifts between the two hospitals. We hope to deliver to CRIBS and PAWS also on December 22 since they are located near Quirino Hospital.
Thank you very much for again for making our Christmas project successful. We are really overwhelmed by your generosity.
Merry Christmas!!!

1. We already raised Php 22,500 and USD 25 in cash donations/pledges!
2. We also have the following pledges in kind:

3. We were likewise informed that some of our friends are planning to brave the streets of Divisoria to buy toys for our Kythe kids. :-P
4. To raise more funds for our project, Karen will hold a garage sale sa village nila before November ends. So, we are also accepting your pre-loved stuff na ok pa na you need to dispose of. Just let us know when and where we can pick them up.

Like last year, whatever you share will not go to waste and will definitely go a long, long way.
Thank you very much!
Giving Back 2011
Sticky post. Scroll down after this entry to see updates.
Last year, 10 November 2010, we sent a letter to our friends to let you know that we were organizing an outreach program for abandoned senior citizens and invited our friends to contribute to our project.
Since we sent that letter, in 2010, we received a total of P53,400.00 from you that we used to buy food, medicine and toiletries for four beneficiary institutions that take care of senior citizens who don’t have families who can give them primary care.

These beneficiary institutions were:
- Tahanan ni Maria - a privately-run care facility in Carmona, Cavite for abandoned elders
- Golden Acres - a DSWD-run facility located on Misamis Street, Bago Bantay, Quezon City, behind SM North Edsa, right beside QC Science High School.
- Kanlungan ni Maria - located on Lanzones Road, Nayong Silangan, Antipolo City, and run by the Diocese of Antipolo.
- Sagip Buhay - elderly care home facility in Bauan, Batangas
Below, you can see our 2010 report to donors, and can click on the photos to enlarge.
This year, we would like to do it again with your help. You can monitor this tumblr for announcements about this year’s Christmas Project. Any new posts would come after this entry so be sure to scroll down to see the updates.
We’re also putting up a poll so we can know if you would like to give to the same beneficiaries as last year, or if you have other worthy beneficiaries you would like to support. Please scroll below to see the survey. You can also let us know your suggestions by clicking on the “Submit” button on the top of this page, or ask us questions by clicking on the “Ask” button beside it. Please let us know your recommendations on or before Tuesday, 25 October 2011.
Much thanks and happy thoughts.
Update: Recipients and First Donations
Hello! Based on the results of the survey, the kids with cancer and the elderly will be our primary beneficiaries.
Thus, we chose the KYTHE FOUNDATION and GOLDEN ACRES as our primary beneficiary institutions for this year:
Kythe, for those who are not familiar with it, is an NGO which provides psychosocial support to pediatric cancer patients. Kythe’s Child Life Program is designed to alleviate the anxiety of pediatric patients and their families. It specializes in promoting optimum growth, development and helping he kid patients cope with the challenge of hospitalization. As their homepage says: “Because children should be flying kites, not fighting cancer.”
Kythe is accepting the following donations:
- Chemotherapy medicines
- Hospital playroom equipment (like inflatable gym, plastic toy utensils and fruits, big building blocks)
- Materials for Art and Craft Activities for the children
- Office equipment
- Hospital equipment (like nebulizer, wheelchairs, alcohol)
As with Golden Acres, our lolos and lolas there were among our beneficiaries last year. We gave them six sacks of rice, canned goods, six large cans of Ensure, decaf coffee, six large cans of assorted biscuits, toiletries and old clothes. We hope to give more this year.
Hopefully, we can raise more than enough funds this year so we can also give to other beneficiary institutions aside from Kythe and Golden Acres.
So far, we have already raised Php 17,000 and USD 25 since our first email.
Donations in cash or in kind are most welcome. We can arrange for pick up para di na kayo maabala masyado. For cash donations, just email or text Ginger, Baby or Sheila for the details. To those abroad, we accept donations via Paypal too. Paypal will send a notification email of the transaction pero better na magseparate email din kayo once you have sent your donation para sure.
That’s all for now. Until the next update!
